Taxi fares going up in Northern Taiwan

The Taipei City Public Transportation Office announced on Friday that the price of cab rides in Taipei City, New Taipei City and Keelung will rise starting Oct 1st, 2015.

The initial charge will stay at NT$70 for the first 1.25 km. An additional NT$5 will be charged for every 200 meters instead of 250 meters. Another NT5 will be charged for every 80 seconds when the taxi is idled or stopped.

Night Fares and Chinese New Years Holiday Fares will remain the same for an extra NT$20 (effective from 11pm to 6 am).

Officials estimated that the adjustment will affect 55,000 taxi drivers and make a NT$6000/month difference on their income.
