After increasing prices for Taipei Buses and Taxis, Taipei City Mayor Ko Wen-Je’s next mission is to adjust MRT prices. Ko announced yesterday MRT rates will be adjusted before 2017. Ko also stated that Buses, YouBikes, MRT and all other forms of public transportation system will be re-organized so that “Taking public transportation will be cheaper than riding a scooter”.
To encourage citizens using public transportation, the City of Taipei will implement a system similar to a loyalty program for all “metroers”. In other words, someone who takes the MRT 1000 times/year will get to enjoy a better rate than someone takes the MRT once a year.
As for buses, Mayor Ko states that a “pay by mileage” program might be implemented as opposed to “pay by segment”.
